Raksha the Demon, is the wolf, and adoptive mother of Mowgli and means 'protective' in Hindi. She defied Shere Khan when he tried to eat the man-cub, and she was known to fight to the death to protect her offspring.
She named Mowgli, which means frog in the speech of the jungle because he was hairless, after finding him wandering in the jungle.
